    Global Trends in Interior Design

    Cost: $15 per person

Join interior designer Jean Renoux as he takes us through history and illustrates how to bring a piece of the world into your living space.

Ralph Lauren Home through MP Interiors at Miromar Design Center located in Estero, FloridaGlobal trends can be seen everywhere. It is impossible today to look through a design magazine and not recognize the international influence throughout the design world.

Global and tribal elements appear in motifs, colors and patterns, inspired by Mexico, South America, Europe, the American Southwest, Southeast Asia and India. Some of these traditional elements have fresh and modern designs to keep them relevant in today's interiors. Other vintage elements bring a sense of history to a newly constructed home. Teak is used as an architectural element, furniture, sculpture, light fixtures and in live edge tables. Ceramics and textiles acquired through travels can be used in your home to add a splash of color along with a reminder of a fun trip. Or if you only aspire to travel you can still incorporate a global look into your home.

Space is limited. $15 per person. Register by calling Jean Renoux at (941) 726-1400

    Course Description
Universal Design/Build presents a paradigm shift in how we approach residential design and construction. Comfort and convenience – regardless of age, stature or ability – is the hallmark of inclusive design. Additionally, universal design must be pleasing to the eye and cost competitive. This course will benefit all who design, supply, build and remodel homes as well as those affiliated with social and health services. Participants will benefit from the creative design concepts and practices presented in order to develop their own market-driven projects with both broad aesthetic appeal and the necessary functional attributes. CAPS designees may find additional benefits from the course since it expands into the broader spectrum of universal design with a much wider target audience. CAPS training is not a prerequisite.

    All attendees will learn to:

    • Describe the significance of integrating UD concepts into residential construction
    • Distinguish between accessibility & UD solutions
    • Locate UD resources, products, materials & services
    • Identify/implement UD solutions for various households, budgets & changing needs

FREE Design Seminar: Helpful Hues and Proper Lighting Make Your Home a Safe Environment

    Presented by Wanda Gozdz,
    CAPS, ASID ALLIED, President &
    Founder, Golden Age Living, LLC

Henredon Interior Design ShowroomAs we get older, adults require 70% more light than a 20-year-old because our pupils contract more, and darker colors make our eyes work harder. Understanding which colors are easier on the eye help us with wayfinding. Proper lighting and color contrast increase safety and provide signals when we have to deal with surface or room changes. For example, increased lighting and color contrast help us to navigate our home more safely. The contrast between the floor and the wall aids our ability to walk more confidently.

When it comes to wayfinding, color can be used in at least four significant ways:
    • Identification: as a brand identifier often in harmony with a logo
    • Action: for links, buttons, and other actions like voting and rating
    • Signification: to let us know where we are, as in “you are here”
    • Notification: to let us know there is something new

Sponsored by Henredon Interior Design Showroom

“Naples Beach Homes: Cottages, Castles and the Families That Built Them”

    Presentation & Reception
    In Lee Industries, Suite 302
Lee Loves Local Miromar Design CenterPresented by authors Robert & Carole Leher

Ever wonder about the homes on Naples Beach? If you have been to Naples, you may have driven along Gulf Shore Boulevard and Gordon Drive to view the amazingly diverse houses on the beach. These homes range from the modest single-story cottages built decades ago, to the modern multi-story mansions that tower high above the sand. Yet these single-family residences all have one thing in common. Each looks out over the beach to the sparkling Gulf of Mexico, and each property has a story to tell.

Naples residents Robert and Carole Leher have spent the past three years talking with homeowners and gathering
their stories about living on the beach. Join as they share some of the stories from their recently-published, 252-page coffee table book, Naples Beach Homes: Cottages, Castles, and The Families That Built Them.

The Presentation will be followed by a Reception and Book Signing by the Authors. Space is limited. RSVP by Monday, February 6. The book, which normally retails for $65, will be available to attendees at a special price of $50, with net proceeds to benefit the Naples Historical Society.

So how are the US and other societies addressing these concerns to accommodate the changing needs of these populations? What challenges will the design profession encounter in order to provide beautiful, safe housing that promotes an independent or inter-dependent lifestyle for all inhabitants? This informative session will address how the US is handling housing options for the senior market and what steps our neighbors in Canada are taking to address the housing needs of their aging population as well.

Gozdz will be addressing Universal Design Principles and how they apply to home modifications.

“Naples Beach Homes: Cottages, Castles and the Families That Built Them”

    Encore Presentation & Reception

RSVP by Friday, March 11. The book, which normally retails for $65, will be available to attendees at a special price of $50, with net proceeds to benefit the Naples Historical Society.

This event is part of a LEE LOVES LOCAL nationwide celebration.
“Since 1969, LEE Industries has been handcrafting American made upholstery in North Carolina. We have built our business through our relationships and partnerships and our belief in supporting local. We are passionate about our retail partners and believe in the mission of supporting local communities.”

Additional area businesses will be part of this LEE LOVES LOCAL Event:
Caterer - You’ve Got It Coming Florist - Petals & Presents

The Presentation will be followed by a Reception and Book Signing by the Authors. Space is limited. RSVP by
Tuesday, February 9. The book, which normally retails for $65, will be available to attendees at a special price of $50, with net proceeds to benefit the Naples Historical Society
